Thanksgiving Food Drive
Thanksgiving will be here soon. Let’s share our many blessings with families in nearby communities. We will be assembling 25 baskets for families who are currently receiving weekly food donations from the ELC Food Pantry in Northport. If you would like to donate money to the purchase of food items, please contact Angela Casano or Joan Lundquist. The ELC Food Pantry will provide the turkeys.
There will be a designated container in the narthex for Thanksgiving food donations. Please consider donating one item each week if you are able.
Week of November 3rd - canned vegetables - string beans, corn, peas, mixed veggies, yams.
Week of November 10th - cookies, cake mix, brownie mix, frosting, coffee, tea].
Week of November 17th- stuffing mix, gravy jars, bags of fresh carrots or potatoes.
How sweet is this? Little Lights preschoolers will bring juice boxes, cranberry sauce and applesauce between November 3rd and November 22nd. Sunday School students will bring apple juice, cookies and bread stuffing.
November 24th is the last day to bring food. We will assemble the baskets on November 24th and deliver to the food pantry on November 25th.

Giving Tree Memorial
Christ Lutheran Church is offering a wonderful way to celebrate, honor and memorialize loved ones. The “Giving Tree" that adorns the wall outside the Fellowship Hall is in need of new engravings. Please take a look and purchase a leaf for $100. You will create a loving tribute that will last for many years to come. Place a written memorial along with a check in the Stewardship mailbox in the narthex. Thank you so much! Questions - Gail Yamada 897-1136.
In January for our Contemporary Series we are doing CLC Carpool Karaoke. Our organist, Dotty will “drive” you around and talk about the song and maybe sing a verse or two. It doesn’t have to be hymn. This will be like our faith journey stories we used to do in Lent, only with music. If you are interested, have a question or a suggestion, talk with Dotty or Pastor Jim. This has the potential to be really great, but also very spiritual. Please share your hymn.
We are looking to replace our seasonal alter paraments, Last year we had new Easter paraments made by Becky Erdman from South Carolina, Beckys' workmanship is outstanding, Becky has agreed to making them for us again. This is a great opportunity to donate a set in memory or honor of a loved one. If you are interested in doing so please speak to Pastor Jim.
New Contemporary Worship Series
On October 20 we start a new contemporary series; “You are not the boss of Me”. Ha. How often have we heard our children at various stages of maturity say these words to their parents? We don’t want to be controlled by anyone or anything. And yet, these days it seems like our emotions control so much of what we say and do. They boss us around and change the way we function. Join us as we talk about these emotions and how, by the grace of god, we can take back some control of our lives. See you there.
Bishop-elect Paul Egensteiner will be installed as Metro New York Bishop of ELCA at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Saturday, November 16 at 2 p.m. All are invited to attend. The Western Suffolk Conference is chartering a bus that will leave King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2611 New York Ave, Melville at 11:30 a.m. (Please arrive by 11 am.) The cost is $25 per person. If you would like to attend, please call the church office. Admission is free but you must register in advance on the MNYS website.
The ELC Food Pantry Needs Your Help!
In addition to regular volunteers, we need able-bodied, strong folk to carry large, heavy deliveries into the pantry. L.I.Cares delivers pallets of food twice a month that need to be unloaded from the curb and brought inside. The pantry is open Monday - Thursday, 10 am - 12 pm. However, on occasion there is a delivery on a Friday. If you live locally and can be available on short notice please contact Angela Casano 680-6813. Martha Keller, Food Pantry Manager can be reached at 261-4357 or email@example.com
Now that all the overgrown landscape is gone in front of the church it is time to see what we can replace it with. A committee is forming to do some research and get estimates. If you are interested talk with Pastor Jim or call the church office. Also, if you want some plants in honor/celebration /memory of a loved one, please contact the office. Let’s make the front of the church as welcoming as possible and that takes your help. Please consider volunteering.
Do You Love Music?
Want to perform but not sure where? Look no further! We are now looking for new instrumentalists and vocalists to be a part of our worship team :) Beginner to intermediate - there’s a place for you here! Please e-mail Rebecca Pissalidis to learn how to become a part of our contemporary worship band!!”

Bible Study Returns
Starting Wednesday, September 11 at 9:30am we will be looking at Paul's first letter to the Corinthians and how he navigated through controversies and conflicts to start the first church.
Our Sunday evening Bible Study begins on September 15 at 7:30pm. We will be using "Rehearsing Scripture" by Anna Carter Florence, that has us reading the bible as a community theater.
Please join us for one or both!
Service Auction Photos
We had a hugely successful service auction. Many thanks to Gail Parisi, John Tyson and all the folks who made it possible by helping with setup and takedown, getting items for baskets, donating services and just showing up at the auction. We couldn’t have done it without you. Check out some photos here.
Sunday School Christmas Pageant Photos
Our Sunday School did a great job on their Christmas Pageant. Thanks to Lisa Cellura and all the Sunday School teachers and kids. You can see some photos of the pageant here.
